Exceptional Upgrade\Retrofit that improves your 1/100 Estes Sat V kit

I have a partially completed Estes Sat V that somehow got damaged before completing. One fin and fairing are missing completely and some minor painting issues. I dreaded the styrene fin assembly and made some mistakes. I put the kit away and forgot about it. Recently I visited the Boyce site and discovered they have a Sat V fin can assembly as one 3D printed piece that essentially solves my problem. Wait, the best part is I can fly a central 29 Motor, with or without four (4) 18 motors in the outboard engines. Plug covers are provided if you want to fly just the single 29 mm motor. I will cutaway the existing bottom 3 in from the existing Sat V and install the New Boyce fin can after I paint it first. Some internal surgery of the Centering ring is required and some glue but is something most modelers can handle. Previously I purchased nose cones from Boyce Aerospace and have been completely satisfied with the quality and fine resolution of the 3D printing. This Sat V fin can is a significantly larger assembly but continues the exceptional level of detail. The printed directions are very clear. I'm looking forward to completing this project and pushing the launch button. A+

Eliminate Saturn V Estes fin/fairing damage

To solve the Estes Saturn V fin / engine fairing design problems, I decided to use the Saturn V 100 scale 3D printed Fin Can (Engine Fairings & Fins) assembly with 29mm center engine mounting. I added a detachable motor mounting assembly consisting of a plywood centering ring, a 2.5-inch 29mm engine mounting tube and a 29mm engine retainer (Estes 072412). This assembly slides into the center of the fin can and butts up to the main 29mm engine mounting tube. I attached it to the bottom of the fin can with 4 retaining screws so it can be removed. This allows using a bottom plate with Estes F-1 engines to make an awesome static model of the Saturn V. I have used two of these fin cans, 1 for a Saturn V Apollo 11 #1969 and 1 for a Saturn V Skylab #1973. All launches on F15-4 engines have been perfect to about 350' and zero damage to fins or fairing on landings.
